Treatment

We assist people who have undergone a sports injury to return to their pre-injury status with hands-on treatment, advice and biomechanical knowledge aiming to restore normal structure and motion and preventing problems from returning in the future.

Your injuries, pains and aches are best “nipped in the bud” by contacting us at the onset of your problems. Have early treatment – return quickly to sport or work! Long-standing problems often require more treatments than those diagnosed and treated early.

If in doubt contact us or drop in to have a chat with one of our physiotherapists.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physio?

No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to access a physiotherapist at Richmond Physiotherapy Clinic. For physiotherapy treatment simply make an appointment with Richmond Physiotherapy Clinic.

TAC, Workcover, EPC/Chronic Disease Management Plan or DVA clients require a referral from their doctor. Contact us to determine bulk-bill eligibility.

Fees for all physiotherapy services can be claimed onsite via HICAPS for rebate through your private health fund extras insurance. The rebate varies depending on your health insurer and level of cover. This is convenient – all you need to do is pay the gap.

Is treatment covered under Medicare?

Many patients have “extras” cover health care benefits package with their Private Health Insurance. Check your benefits policy. There also may be cover under WorkCover or TAC/Transport Accident insurance.

Medicare now subsidises up to five physiotherapy treatments each calendar year for conditions meeting chronic pain/complex condition criteria. A Chronic Disease Management Plan referral is necessary from your GP in this instance, please discuss this with them.

What does a physiotherapy appointment involve?

An appointment with a Richmond Physiotherapy Clinic physiotherapist will involve taking a relevant clinical history. The injured area is assessed as well as other areas that may be contributing to the problem. You are then informed of the results of the assessment and a suitable treatment program is devised.

Treatment programs are individualised and evolve based on your needs and stage of recovery. Treatment may encompass modalities, i.e. “hands on” treatment, specific exercises, biofeedback and include advice and strategies on how to manage the problem.

How many treatments will I need?

After treatment you should have less pain and feel more flexible and comfortable in your movements. Relief can be dramatic and long lasting; your physiotherapist will expect to see positive results within 2-4 treatments for common symptoms.

However, each individual is unique and it may take several visits before you return to normal.

We are here to help

As part of our routine care, we teach you self-treatment. Our aim is to give you the ‘tools’ necessary to prevent the problem from returning so you can reduce your dependency on ‘hands on’ treatment, reducing the interruption in your daily life due to health problems.

Referrals to other specialists

You will also benefit from our network of specialists such as orthopedic consultants, personal trainers, podiatrists and doctors should the need arise. We generally know who the most appropriate professionals to contact if we are unable to fully alleviate your problem.
